The Enterprise / Underground Music Curator & his chosen talent
“WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR IS A GREAT IDEA. SOMETHING THAT’S TRANSFERABLE, THAT APPEALS TO DIFFERENT KINDS OF PEOPLE, THAT HAS AN IDENTITY AND THAT IS TRUE TO ITSELF. SOMETHING THAT’S SUSTAINABLE. WHOEVER I PICK, I’LL HELP IN WHATEVER WAY I CAN TO DEVELOP THE PERSON AND THEIR IDEAS, LINK THEM UP WITH MY KIND OF PEOPLE.” - THRIS TIAN
East Londoner Thris Tian is one of the founding masterminds behind Boiler Room TV, the world’s leading underground music show. Always multi-national in his music selection, Thris Tian makes a point of always hunting for new music, whenever, wherever he is. Originally the programmer for Boiler Room, Thris Tian is now responsible for lining up musical acts that are diverse and eclectic, a theme that has become synonymous with the Boiler Room image.
Thris Tian completed a musical apprenticeship at record label Brownswood Recordings for Gilles Peterson (Kiss 100 FM, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music) where he began to research for Gilles’ radio shows and gigs, as well as talent scouting for the label. It was this that allowed him to develop as a DJ and taught him to embrace a range of international musical styles. He went on to work at the legendary record store Sound of Universe and their label Soul Jazz.
Every Sunday night on NTS, Thris Tian heads up the Dark N’ Lovely Global Roots show, where listeners can never be sure what to expect with genres from West African grooves to Norwegian Gospel making appearances.
