NOISE 2006 Ceramicist
Following her exposure at the NOISE Urbis exhibition, Carly was offered a two week NOISE Dream Job placement at Hemingway Design. During her time there she designed tiles for Hemingway Design kitchenware range and was given good feedback by her colleagues and really enjoyed the work.

This experience was an eye opener for Carly and she soon realised the qualifications and qualities she would need to get a permanent job in the industry. To work towards this she is now doing an MA in Ceramic Design for Industry at Staffordshire University.

Of her placement she said: 'It made me realise the computer skills I would need. It is a brilliant reference on my CV and has given the chance to do more work experience in London which I would not have got without it.'

Carly is eager to encourage future submitters: 'I was overwhelmed by NOISE it was just the push I needed. You should definitely do this, it is really worth while. It started something for me and I have realised what I want and need to do.'

Catherine encourages people to take part with NOISE: 'The NOISE Festival and its wonderful team have been great. They have helped raise my profile as a fledgling Designer-Maker whilst introducing my work to a broad and multi-disciplined audience." She adds: 'It's a really good, nice online network and especially with the way technology is going, it makes it easier for people to get the recognition they deserve. It's definitely worth doing!'

TOM GOODFELLOW

NOISE 2006 Curator Choice for Product Design
Tom Goodfellow had two projects selected for exhibition through NOISE, Sleeping (Less) Rough and Wax Light Projects. Sleeping (Less) Rough, a portable bed for the homeless, was trialled by Big Issue in the North sellers and scored a rave review in an issue. It was also featured on BBC Midlands Today gaining more coverage for the young designer.

During the exhibition Tom also found out that he had won a DreamJob placement with Wayne Hemingway. The time at Hemingway Designs left a great impression on Tom: 'It has inspired me to continue with greater optimism to make my name an established one within the design industry.'

'The NOISE festival's something that all young creatives should enter. I never thought that so much would come of it, I mean getting the chance to work with Wayne Hemingway 'you can't top that!' Tom has now set up an East London based designed studio, 'Lo-tec', along with friends. The team pulls from each individual's interest and talent so that their work ranged from animation to jewellery design to interactive media.

'This piece could work well as part of a government ad campaign for warning people about our shortage and preciousness of energy resources' - Wayne Hemingway, NOISE Curator for Product Design.

PAUL ELDER
Achievements:Urbis Exhibition, Dream Job at Hemingway Design, artwork sold via NOISEfestival.com
NOISE 2006 Ceramicist
Paul Elder was put on a two week placement with Wayne Hemingway through the NOISE project, Dream Jobs. Whilst at Hemingway Design he worked on the project 'Land of Lost Content'. Though his trade is in ceramics, Paul found his two week placement was a great opportunity to learn new skills that were useful for his line of work but not something he was used to, like PhotoShop.

NOISE came at the right time for Paul and he was grateful of the chances it gave him.

'After all the hard work I had put in over the past three years, it was fantastic to be recognised by an organisation such as NOISE. It is great that they get young creative talent noticed in a way that would be very difficult on their own, and the chance to work alongside Wayne Hemingway was such an amazing opportunity.'

He is currently setting up his own studio in Manchester and urges all the creative talent out there to submit work: 'It's a really good experience and has been great for me personally as it took me out of my comfort zone.'

KHAIRUL ISLAM
Achievements:NOISE Urbis Exhibition, NOISE flyer and poster campaign
NOISE 2006 Product Designer

Khairul says, 'NOISEfestival.com offered me a fantastic opportunity to present my work to a wider audience. Being available online gave me the opportunity to meet people with a genuine interest and allowed me to build a network of friends with a shared enthusiasm for Design.'

JOHN CASWELL
Press:BBC Radio Somerset, BBC Somerset Where I Live website, Somerset local newspaper
Achievements:Dream Job at Hemingway Design, NOISE Urbis Exhibition, NOISE Magma Exhibition, Icon Flypitch event
NOISE 2006 Product Designer
John Caswell is skilled in various areas of design including woodwork, photography, ceramics and metal work to name a few, but on his Dream Job placement with Wayne Hemingway he was given the opportunity to explore areas he had not tried before. He was placed on a project to redesign a hospice interior. During his first week he said: 'I felt at ease working within the studio and was made to feel welcome.'

John now has his own design company John Caswell Designs located in Bristol. Looking back on his involvement with NOISE John said: 'The Noise Festival has really surprised me. Usually when you submit work to any creative organisation nothing much comes of it. However, The Noise Festival has given me the opportunity to showcase my work at two really promising exhibitions. It has also given me the chance to gain some much needed work experience in a top design studio. I would fully recommend it to anyone thinking of a profession in the creative industries.'

'At the beginning of the week I was given a project to work on. The project is the redesign of a hospice interior and is something that I wasn't really all that familiar with. After a day going over the emails regarding the project and the project details I sat down with Wayne and his wife Gerardine and discussed the project. The basic plan for the hospice is to make it feel more like a home or a hotel and not like a cold clinical ward, like it is at the moment. After gathering images of interiors that I thought we could get ideas from, myself and Sarah from Hemingway design travelled up to Dewsbury near to the where the hospice is located in Pontefract. When we were there we met with two people from the hospice and the manager of Red Brick Mill a retail outlet for some major design stores including Heals, Harrods and Marks and Spencers. We spent some time looking at furniture for the interior and seeing exactly what was available as this is where most of the furniture will come from.' http://dreamjobblog.spaces.live.com
