introduction

Curatorial Statement: I have always had a keen interest in history and art since I was a young girl and have always wanted to be an active part of my local community. After studying both a BA (Hons) in Interactive Arts and an MA in Contemporary Curation at University, I feel that I have acquired numerous relevant and transferable skills that would enable me to work effectively within a gallery or museum environment. Within my MA in particular, I have had gained experience in writing press releases and interpretation material for galleries, through both my written work and my hands on experience of helping out with both the Holden gallery and Pavement Gallery. My experience at the Holden Gallery in particular has allowed me to acquired skills in both vinyl, exhibition install and in writing promotional and marketing material to accompany the exhibition programme (such as flyers and catalogues). For example; I have previously written interpretation material for artists such as Douglas Gordan and Felix Gonzalez Torres for the Mortality: Death and the Imagination exhibition in July 2013. In addition to my writing skills, I also have a good knowledge of both local history and of the current critical debates within the art world; with particular emphasis on participation and digital media. I am also skilled at researching and have had a brief introduction to the SPECTRUM database as well as an ECDL qualification from the British computer society. As I am also a practising artist, I have had plenty of experience of working to deadlines and managing my priorities in order to ensure that my artwork is finished and ready to display. Over my time at University I have been involved in numerous collaboration projects and I believe I have the ability to work well within a team environment. I have done numerous volunteer work for various art organisations over the past 4 years that have helped to further develop my skills and provide me with a great insight. I can also work individually as I am flexible, self motivated and hard working, as well as being a skilled organizer and practical at creative thinking. I would love to be given the chance to do a job that would be both rewarding and provide a useful service to the public in a field that I am both qualified and eager to be a part of. Artist Statement: I specialises in the technique of scanography, resulting in work that is both experimental and spontaneous. With my childhood passion lying in painting, I have been combining these two elements to create work outside of the social normality. Using the scanner as both a camera and a canvas, I question the way art is formed and approach the idea of creating art in a new light. My use of the scanner in this way is unique in this area and it helps me to stand out from other artists in this medium. My practice also allows for the viewer to form their own explanations about the work and to stimulate their imaginations into response. My current practice is exploring the nature of Fluids, examining the reactions that occur when different fluids combine, but also the dynamic and vibrant patterns that naturally form. I am interested in the use of fluids within the creation of a piece of work but also in the creation process itself. I want to bring the messy, fragile yet beautiful aspects from my experiments into the public environment; something that is stereotypically hidden from view within a white-walled gallery. When I work with fluids I am reminded of our natural fluid origins and the importance water has in our daily lives. My work is more like realism than abstract art, as I am utilising a medium that contains the very essence of our existence and I aim to play on this aspect in peoples subconscious.
